A biomass map shows how the vitality of your crops changes across different field areas. Use them to detect high productivity spots or weaker zones of your field and plan your farming operations accordingly.
With the help of biomass maps, you can:
- create precise fertilisation, seeding, or crop protection maps that are compatible with your equipment and help you use your resources more effectively and sustainably
- monitor the health of your crops
- spot potential diseases or areas affected by drought and act early
- watch how the vitality of your crop changes during the growth season
- predict the crop yield.
When you create a new field, you gain access to all the biomass maps from the last 3 years or 1 year. New ones should appear regularly every few days.
How to open biomass maps
1. Click the field for which you want to display biomass maps.
2. In the Maps section, click Show all.
3. At the top, you see the Field vitality chart. You can enlarge it and analyze data from different periods. Scroll down to browse historical biomass maps.
4. Use the toggles to define display criteria (you can skip images covered by clouds or show real images instead of a vitality overlay). Next to each map preview, you can see the vitality percentage and vitality change (in comparison to the previous map). Click the selected map to display a larger view.
5. If you want to use a given biomass map as a base map, click the 3 dots icon and select the application map you would like to create. You can also export the biomass map as a pdf file.
Display options
Real images
You can choose if you want to display biomass maps as vitality heatmaps or real satellite images. We recommend switching to the second option whenever you want to double-check if your current biomass map is not overly affected by cloud coverage. To do that, click on the Show real images option.
Because of the satellite photo resolution, real map images may appear blurry - this is because of the difference between satellite imagery resolution and the background map photo resolution (from the 3rd party provider).
Clean images
Clouds can significantly affect how we calculate crop vitality - that is why we don’t display new biomass maps if the cloud coverage is over 40%. By using the Clean images option, you can only display maps with cloud coverage between 0-5%. This will guarantee the most accurate data. Click on the Show clean images toggle to activate it.
